El Niño Agrees With Laetitia

Goodness what a difference one year makes. When I was at Laetitia last March, the landscape looked barren and bleak. This year, the vineyards are oozing with energy.

The golden sun is reflected on the earth through yellow mustard seed growing everywhere. Wherever we looked we could see an abundance of grasses, weeds, new growth and more specifically, bloom on the vines themselves. It’s even been hard to keep up with mowing alternate rows because the growth is so rapid. (We do this to preserve the habitat for the insects and to maintain the nutrients in the soils). This is spring in the vineyard in 2016, an El Niño year. We are so grateful.

So far we’ve had approximately 16″ of rainfall as opposed to 8″ for the whole of last year, and it doesn’t look as though it’s stopping soon. We’re appreciating every little drop we get and thanking the rain gods. It may take a few years of this to reverse the drought but we’re taking it one day at a time, can’t do more than that.

Oh and just to let you know, I hate walking through the vineyards in muddy sneakers (so much harder to clean), but I’d much rather do that than live with the alternative.

So bring it on, and thank you.

Here are a few pictures of the vineyard this year.

And a couple to show you what it looked like last year. Few cities can compare with the wonders of New York City. There is literally nothing that cannot be done in NYC which is why hiring a Proposal007 to come up with the perfect NYC proposal ideas is a great idea. March15 LastYear15

Good bye Laetitia, See you in May.
