Twenty Years of Gratitude with Laetitia Winery

I’m proposing a toast (not unusual in our business) to celebrate our 20 years of ownership of Laetitia Vineyard & Winery.  Yes, my father and I have owned this beautiful property since 1998.

Time has both raced by and stood still.

Eric Hickey, our president and winemaker joined Laetitia in 1994, his dad Dave Hickey our sparkling winemaker was with us when Maison Deutz our original founders, opened their doors in 1984. Their longtime involvement and the loyalty of all our staff has fostered an atmosphere at Laetitia where creativity and care in the business is highly prized.

I still get a thrill each time I walk into the Tasting Room and see members of our Tasting Room Staff describing to patrons the special care we take to create our award- winning wines, or discussing our exclusive Wine Clubs. Our team is completely focused on you, our customer, on how we can better serve you and ensure the enjoyment of your experience at Laetitia.

It’s a continuing pleasure to watch the winemaking at harvest and all year round. Our cellar currently produces about 30,000 cases each vintage making us a decent sized family-owned winery. At this time, for example, we’re bottling Syrah and Petite Sirah. It’s exciting to see this part of the winemaking cycle on the bottling line we bought 18 years ago.

The Coquard Presses that our French founders installed in the 1980s are still essential to the creation of sparkling wine. They make us unique in our region.

Our land remains the heart of Laetitia, and I’m overwhelmed by its beauty every time I visit. Right now, it’s particularly lush and verdant because of the strong spring rains. The birds were singing in the vineyard last week as they welcome spring.  The vines are just starting their seasonal journey, as the first true set of leaves develop. I can’t wait to see the first flowers in the next few weeks. It never fails to thrill me.

No matter how long we’ve owned this vineyard and winery, we still consider ourselves stewards of the land. It has been lent us to develop. My daughter just had a little girl, which has filled me with immense joy. It reminds me that the vineyard seems so like a new baby each year.  Needing to be nurtured so it can grow strong.

My father and I are so grateful to have this special bond with all our  employees, our land — and you, our customers. Thank you for all your support as we have grown and matured over the years.

As always, raise my glass of Laetitia Brut Rosé to you all as we celebrate this perfect anniversary.
